Arts Academy @ New Covenant Lutheran Church
Arts Academy
...a place where children and youth can discover and learn the creative arts in a nurturing, faith-based environment.

A very early beginner piano class that uses color coded guides to teach preschool-aged children to read music notes of familiar songs and play them on a keyboard. By the end of the first book they will begin to learn to read notes on the staff without the color guides.  The benefits of music education for young children are numerous and can last a lifetime!

Kids on the Keys
A group beginner piano course for ages 5 and older that will teach the student how to read music, how to read rhythms with note and music symbols, and where the notes are on the keyboard – all in a fun and supportive atmosphere! Group music instruction increases confidence and self esteem as well as the ability to enjoy a sense of community.

Heart Strings
Violin class (ages 5-7)
This class will give your child the foundations for violin playing.  Your child will produce good posture and outstanding tone quality while focusing on simple, yet fun music that they will learn by rote.  Through this class, the learner will develop an excitement for music and practice which results with many excellent character traits instilled in the learner.

Strings class (ages 8 and up)
This class provides beginning instruction on violin, viola, cello or string bass. All students in this class will learn proper posture, outstanding tone production, reading/understanding basic rhythms, and the fundamentals of note reading in their clef. Through this class, the learner will develop an excitement for music and practice which results with many excellent character traits instilled in the learner.

How Great Thou ART
This is an opportunity for a child to learn and practice basic art. They will learn about colors, about techniques and materials. Each student will hopefully develop their creative skills and create some fun art projects while experiencing creative freedom.

Leap for JOY!
This class will capture and nurture the dance that is within each child - joyful movement freely expressed - encouraging exploration, independence and social interaction. Basic tumbling will be taught along with simple dance movements in the areas of hip hop and jazz. Combinations, turns, leaps, and funky steps all provide very good exercise and help to develop coordination!

Budding Ballerinas
Beginning ballet instruction for preschoolers and older that will include barre exercises for warm-ups and technique development, floor work for basic steps, turns, leaps and combinations. Ballet classes are especially good for aspiring gymnasts, swimmers, skaters, or anyone!

Los Amigos
This class taps into a child’s natural language abilities. It will introduce and reinforce basic Spanish words and phrases utilizing the six steps of language acquisition. Exposure to a second language actually causes more neural connections to grow in a child’s brain, which in turn allow for easier additional learning of the first and second languages.

Manners & More
Do your kids know how to take a phone message? Hold a fork correctly? Here's a class that will make learning the social graces simple and fun! The children will be writing thank-you notes and letters; setting a table with placemat guides; using flash cards with proper etiquette for phone calls, conversations, and dining; and much more.
