In John 3, Nicodemus asks Jesus what he needs to do to follow. Jesus replies very simply that you need only to believe in Him as Savior. That is at the cornerstone of confirmation… it is the public confession of this belief.
Beyond that, Paul calls us in Philippians to reflect Christ in our daily lives in order to better understand how to walk with him.
Therefore we are setting forth some expectations as we journey together…
If it is your intention to be confirmed you will need to complete the following during this calendar year…
- BASE Life materials… You are expected to have your Bible, BASE Life binder and a pen or pencil with you at every BASE Life night.
- Attendance: Since we feel that BASE Life should be a priority for you in your life, attendance at all Wednesdays and retreats is important and expected.
- Sermon Notes: You will not be expected to complete any sermon notes before the end of the year.
- Worship: We expect you to be in worship every weekend. We hope this will become something you want to do since worship is a wonderful way to encounter God! (and complete your sermon notes!)
- Prayer: We expect you to be actively praying for your group. God wants so badly to be in conversation with you that we feel we need to raise that up as an expectation
- Memorization: Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” You are not expected to memorize any of the verses
- Retreats: Each grade will be attending a weekend retreat which you may attend…
- Faith Statement: You will not be required to write a faith statement or to read it in front of the congregation.
- Small Groups: You will participate in small groups – If you interrupt, bring a cell phone or use inappropriate language (including body language) you will be fined .50 per each infraction. You and parents are responsible for these charges.
Note: Level 1 is an easy way for you to be involved and just check out Jesus… and we are excited you are a here! Even though you are not required to do sermon notes, memory work or a faith statement, you can if you want! The only difference is that Level 1 participants are not considered confirmation track and will not participate in the Confirmation celebration at the end of 8th grade. If at any time you would like to change to Level 2 Confirmation track, please let us know!
I understand these requirements and intend to fulfill them this year as part of my Confirmation obligation.
